Davidmore1 Nov 20, 2003 03:16 PM

Well I just upgraded my beardie to a 75 gallon tank and he seems to like it so I am left with this empty 20 gallon anyone have suggestions for a good herp to keep in a 20 gal I would like something that either will eat mainly greens or a pellet diet because I don't really want to have to keep two sizes of crickets on hand is there anthing you guys can think of? oh yea no snakes

When I move Grendel up to my 75 gallon I'll be left as a 20 gallon as well, which is going to house my ball python...but you said no snakes. So....let's see.

My recommendation for the specifications you listed would be crested geckos, but 20 gallons is way too big for just one, more like an adult pair or 6 juveniles, and cresteds prefer a more vertical setup anyway, so that rules them out.

Leopard geckos maybe? Never kept them so I really don't know.

Sorry if this isn't much help. I've had more experience with snakes than anything else...now, if you want to talk about what snakes to put in a 20 gallon then I've got tons of options for you!

I would look into geckos, small lizards, and small frogs. Although these animals all eat smaller crickets, at least at first, they will all do well in a 20 gallon.

If it were my 20 gallon, I think I'd get a snake or a gecko of some sort. Or save it for more baby beardies.

I've had a lot of fun in the past with anoles. They are interesting little things, and they like to live in groups. A 20 gallon would be heaven for a small group of them.

They eat the tiny crickets.

I have 4 adult female leopard geckos in my 20 gallon tank... They eat large crickets, superworms & silkworms, with the occasional butterworm or waxworm. They are really easy to care for & are nocturnal. You can house up to 4 (but just make sure there's no more than 1 male) adults in a 20 gallon long tank. But they don't eat veggies or pellets...

Uromastyx, however, eat veggies & pellets & are cool desert lizards but I'm not sure of how big they get or what the cage requirements are.
