Posting photos using FOTKI.COM

ig_daddy May 31, 2003 11:20 PM

I'm trying to get around the 250k limit on the photo gallery. Has anyone used FOTKI.COM? It is a photo sharing website. I have tried to put in the entire URL of my photo, but The test forum just shows the broken link white box with red X. Can anyone give me pointers for using off site photo storage? To see my scaley green "daughter", and why it's sometimes hard to type on the keyboard, go to this link:

Fotki, like some of the other services, may not allow external linking to its photos... But, try the link below...

Looks like it works, you just gotta go hunting to find out what fotki.com thinks your image is called and where it is stored...

Thank you for helping me with my off site photo posting. I like FOTKI, because it gives the camera and exposure info used. I'm also on the Reptile/Amphibian photo forum, too. If I may ask, how did you get the correct URL? When I registered at FOTKI, I gave my user name as Lamar, and the album name as Iggi. During the photo upload, the URL listed was http://public.fotki.com/Lamar/iggi/(the rest was HTML code I didn't copy down). The file name on my computer is "Iggi on my computer 4.jpg", and I browsed over to the file name and used it for the upload. Before the upload, FOTKI asked for a photo name, and I used "Iggi on my computer". After the upload, I was taken to my album, where the Photo name is shown. I logged off FOTKI, and Typed the URL in my browser bar, and it brought me up to mu album, but not the actual photo. I need to know how to find the numbers you found in the URL, to add them to the Image URL, in order for others to see the photo. I am also going to use this technique on another site I go on, the Yahoo! Iguana Mailing List. They allow NO graphics in their messages. They have a small "Photos" section, but you have to get out of the messages section, to see the photos. Thanks again for the help. I'll post more photos of Iggi in the future.

Just go to the page with your photo on it, right-click on the photo and click properties. It will give you the correct URL for your photo.

Oddly enough, I didn't think of it either, and I'm a web developer... Too much of a prop-head and coder, so, I went straight to the source code and dug up the image reference... LOL

Yep... I'm a geek...

I just wish there was a way to cut and paste from the Properties window, to Windows clipboard. Some of the URLs for the pictures stored on FOTKI.COM are l-o-n-g!
