Ummm... my cat ate some turtle food

Anddawede Nov 20, 2003 06:14 PM

I was wondering if turtle pellets are harmful to cats? I was soaking my pellets in calcium suppliment and got an emergency call and had to leave. When I came home, the soaking food was gone, the pellets were knocked over and I had a very guilty looking cat.

Does that sound like anything to worry about for my cat?

Your cat should be fine unless it is allergic to any of the ingrediants, my two dogs get into my turtle food when I make the mistake of leaving it on the ground.

It's just fish meal, probably not that different in raw ingredients from cat food. My 12 pound dog ate a whole bottle once. She's also eaten fish food, dead mice, Mazuri insectivore diet, and a tube of toothpaste...

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

Yeah sounds a lot like my dogs, I have seen a lot of interesting things while cleaning up dog crap in the back yard, ecspecially after the holidays.

LOL, my lab eats everything too. He ate a waxworm once, what a look he gave me, he certainly didn't like it. He does like catching stray crckets tho. He also ate rat poison once, and after we got back from the vet, he ate his entire bottle of medicine (including most of the plastic bottle).

LOL... usually the cats treat everything like we are trying to poison them. I guess that's the nature of the cat, but Morgan (my shelter kitty) is a scavenger. I guess she still remembers the days when she was a street kitty. One of my dogs we jokingly call "Ms Hoover" because she'll just about eat anything. We haven't had to pick up dropped food from cooking in awhile (unless its food she can't have ie: raw chicken, chocolate). Morgan has a tendency of watching everything the turtle (and fish) do. To the point I have had to admonish her for sticking her head in the tank. So I keep a screen on the tank. I'm still shocked that she ate the turtle food. She hasn't tried since.

Thanks for your quick response!!! I actually read the message last night but computer decided to wig out and Survivor was starting LOL

My cat is acting normal this morning so I guess the turtle food didn't hurt her. I just have to make sure I'm more careful in the future.

We have 6 cats & 7 dogs in my household and we don't cross-feed them at all, not even table scraps. And Turtle pellets are definately not on any of their "diets".
