They do not require them, but they are needed for live plants and can really light up the tank (as well as the frog's natural hues).

no pacman frogs do not need uv lights.Plus these animals live in the rainforest and barely any light gets through the trees.
You do realize that probably only a fraction of these live in rainforests. If they lived in a rainforest, they wouldn't have adaptations such as forming a mucous cocoon to escape the dry season, which would never actually come. They are mostly frogs of the dry llanos, the plains and grasslands. Andy

What i was trying to point out.... is that the ones that do live in the rainforest make out fine without gettin light. I not exactly retarded.
Well, you could have made the point by saying that for most of the year these frogs are under the ground since the vast majority probably have never seen a rainforest. I do not see why you find my posts to be inflammatory and that they warrant such a retort as "I not retarded" when all I am doing is correcting errors so people do not become misinformed. Andy

Actually, no they do not-however, as a rule of thumb, occasionally offer lightly dusted calcium powder with D3 in it. They still need *some* D3 to help metabolize the calcium, especially when young.
I had a perfectly healthy pacman frog for 9 years and it never had a single bit of UV lights. and I bought her when she was an adult too.
