Feeding times?

ridge Nov 20, 2003 10:40 PM

What times do you guys feed your subadult darts? I have been feeding an hour after the lights come on and then again at about a half hour before lights go off (right after misting). They seem to eat more and be more aggressive towards the FF in the evening. Anybody doing anything different or recommend anything different? I haven't seen too much on here or on the sites about feeding times or regularity.

I'm not sure it matters, but someone please correct me if I am wrong. I can say from what I have noticed, my frogs eat right before the lights come on, and then later in the day when i feed them. I used to feed them in the morning, but it got to be too much right before work so I changed the lights and now feed them when I get home. It took them a couple of weeks to catch on, but now they are waiting when I get home to be fed.

I feed my juvies twice per day . . . much like you indicated. I feed my adults once per day in the evening. The adults are far better at hunting and can take in larger quantities at once, and are more capable of hunting down flies in lower densities than the juvies.

As for activity, my frogs are certainly more active from about 10 a.m. onward to before lights go out.

but I just toss in a bunch of flies once a day for my juvenile auratus. They seem quite capable of snacking whenever they're hungry (although I try to scooch them into the open just before feeding time to maximize the chance of catching flies). It seems that right after misting or gently blowing into the tank at times other than feeding time, the remaining flies start scurrying about, attracting the attention of the frogs (if they're hungry).

My Azureus all know exactly when it is feeding time, they come running...my auratus and leucomelas wait until I leave the area before they will start feeding and I always worry that they don't get enough to eat. I have had them for a while and they all seem healthy and growing so I guess no worries...

About 3x a week for me.

So much microfauna in my substrate, i dont have to feed alot. Actually, it does look a bit overwheight, so sometimes i do skip more days.
