Odd garters lately showing up

Langly2112 Jun 01, 2003 12:34 AM

I know this is probably a stupid question-but recently I noticed a change in the colour of the garters showing up in my neighborhood-they aren't the usual greenish/blueish colours (but have never looked like the text book colours either)

They are more like reddish/orange is there a reason for this? Most of them have no dorsal stripes either.

thanks from PA

hey where do you live because i have a population of garters like that,,,most solid brown on top with no stripe and orange stripes on the sides with reddish belly,,they are awsome,,and i have a few bluish colored ones but not as many,,,i find these guys on the banks of this railroad back in my back yard and there is no water around for miles,,,i think they are mice eaters

MAN!!!!!!!!!! You guys are so lucky! I cant find anything around this barren town! I've been looking for garters for like 2 months already, with no luck. Email me if you feel like making a couple extra bucks. If you have pics of what u catch, send me a couple.

I Live in PA and I'm finding them all over my neighborhood (which consists of one street and a dozen houses) which is great-I don't have to go far to see snakes.

But that's why I notice the colour difference in them-because I've lived here for 10 years and they have changed rather suddenly. Oddly I found almost none last year and I'm used to finding them-then this year-there are alot of them-more than usual. I don't go one day without seeing at least 2 and I'm not even looking for them.

What do you think happened to make this happen?

Langly

and I never thought of photographing them-but I will and post one of the older ones compared to these-I have a photo of one of the ones I found in 2001.
