RES, frogs, bettas

I`m new to the whole `aquirium` thing. Before I got Lloyd I`d only had tortoises.

So right now, we have some plants, and 9 little feeder-fish (more or less the Japanese equivalent for `guppies.`) I also have, of course, a basking lamp, UV bulb, filter, some nice plus-sized gravel so no one can swallow it, some logs, and Lloyd`s island.
And for reference, the tank is 2 feet long, 1 foot tall and 1 foot wide.

I want to add something else to the tank. I`ve heard vague mention of frogs and turtles sharing a tank. Would it be possible to add an African Dwarf frog into my tank? Would they `play-nice` together?

I`ve also heard that you could put a betta and an african dwarf frog together. But Lloyd would just see a betta as a nice, slow-moving snack, wouldn`t he? Right now Lloyd`s shell is only 3.5 cms long, from head to tail. (A meager 1.4 inches in length).
How big would he have to be to eat the betta? Would he chomp on the fins, even though the fish is too big for him to eat? Will he get big enough to eat the thing within its 3-year life-span?

Anyways, like I said, I know nothing about making a happy community tank. But I like what I have now, and would like to add a little something more. Would a turtle, a frog and a betta be asking for terrible disaster? Ideas on what might work better?
I`d like something with a bit of color to it, really. But the only fish store I`ve seen just doesn`t have the wide selection of beautiful fish I remember seeing in the states... They have some lovely baby koi, but lovely baby koi turn into lovely MONSTER SIZED koi.

Thanks for your help!

This is a pic of Lloyd and his tank, by the by. There should be 10 little fishes in there too... I wonder where they`re hiding.
Also: the water is NOT that yellow anymore. It`s beautiful, pristine, and clear since I added better filter substrate. I was amazed at the difference it made!

RES's will generally attempt to nibble on anything once... if they decide its not food, they will leave it alone. If they like it, they will keep trying and trying... U can always try, but the results may not be that good...

He will most likely kill or injure the frog, in general it is a real bad idea to mix reptiles with amphibians. Bettas are also not a good choice, since they are very brave and slow and the fins are easy for the turtle to catch. Small nervous flightly fish last a lot longer.

I had a frog, and it was gone it two days. My turtle was just a hatchling then. I have heard of people getting by with putting some big sized African cichlid's in with turtles, but I have not tried it. Where I live they are $8.00 just for a small one, and I am not going to risk losing the 10-12 dollars for a big one. But, they are pretty fish. Good Luck!

hey, just wanted to say that i once put a african frog dwarf in my tank w/ my turtles, i monitored them carefully, my turtle was scared of the frog and wouldnt even touch it, eventually after like 30 min, the turtle went close to the frog, the frog acted like it was dead, and my turtle managed to get the frogs head in its mouth, almost bit it off, but i banged hard on the tank and the frog was going crazy, so lukily it got away, by the way my turtle was around 1 year old, i wouldnt take a chance
