BRUMATION

coolhl7 Nov 21, 2003 07:55 AM

do scarlet kings need more than aspen sheddings and a water bowl for brumation or will they dehydrate? should there be a small container within their shoebox with slightly damp moss that they can use if they feel the need or will this just promote scale sores if they stay there too long? would a weekly fine spray be helpful? The aspen bedding seems so dry and the winter air although at 60 dgrees is so less humid than summer. thanks.

I think this adds enough humidity so that even the smallest and most suseptable milks dont dessicate. Watch that they dont spend ALL their time in it(dont let it become the warmest part of the cage)or knock it over. I have also heard of some brumating this species in sphagnum moss instead, but I imagine misting would be needed there....as well as more careful monitoring,Jeff
