DryGuy...I think some of mine have caught your mysterious condition...weird.

I needed a "double picture" (in and out of the retreat area)
to catch all the action.

I just started pairing mine up tonight.

This female, "Charlotte" is as solid black as any I've seen. She has a spot of white the size of a dime or so inder the chin...no red at all. Other than the small white, she's 100% black. I've actually never seen one with NO white on it...I hope to get some babies like her. I like them as well as the hight reds if not more so.

The male she's coupling with here is "Nero". He's my largest eastern at about 7.5'

Something good is going on this year. In the past couple of weeks five of the females I am pairing this year have copulated. These are the good copulations that last 24 to 36 hours. I don't know why the other females did not copulate, but after last year's poor breeding season for most of us, it looks as though this will be a good year.

Best of luck to all indigo breeders,

I was blessed in having a bumper "crop" (which is still modest compared to breeders like you) last year but it sure is nice to see so many folks having great success with couperi this season. Figures, I am holding back all but one of my females this year!...at least I know who to pass interested people on to. Good job everyone!

I don't consider copulation as success by any means.
My indigos are very simple to enduce to copulate. Good eggs is another matter altogether.

I've actually had great success up until this year when I was given a good ego-check when I was skunked with my couperi.

ALL of them copulated MULTIPLE times...but no good eggs.
Just hoping this year is more like 2002, when I had one female lay 15 good eggs, ann another lay 16 !!

Absolutely....if there is one thing I have learned in working with couperi is to NEVER expect anything. When people call me inquiring about how many indigos I will have available, I just tell them "how ever many hatch...if any". Having worked with many other species, I know how humbling breeding projects can be. We are attempting to breed our heloderms but so far, no luck...but at least they all get along!
