Siamese Crocs...

mrfisher Nov 21, 2003 11:19 AM

Just curious,

What is the big deal about these guys? Is it just the fact that they're endangered in the wild? Are they actually coveted in the private keepers circle? If so, is it because of the endangerment or because they are really interesting behaviourally or relatively tame?

Siamensis is one of the biggies, and as such is sought after, also it is an incredibly attractive croc. Being hard to come by in deed helps with the desire to have them, but I think that most with clean siamensis blood have them to preserve the integrity of the genetic materials out there, something most of the croc farms have not done in their native lands.
Not everybody desires large agile potential "kill you dead" crocs..but to those of us that appeals too it isn't only siamensis we seek to keep or keep....
Just my two cents worth...

Well for me it was for one the size..Siamese are not one of the larger crocs out there although they make up for it in temperment, They normally at adult length only reach around 8 foot, although I have seen larger older animals..Two was how attractive the animal was...Beautiful bright golden color with jet black bands across the body..Sad to say that color will fade considerably with time and they become a more dull greyish in color as they mature..Some are lucky and keep some of that color but very few...Three, after working with crocs for years I just felt this animal was the best fit for me like some people think dwarf caimen are the best for them or Alligators because of thier temperment..I could've purchased a Nile and regreted it later on because of the enormous size it's going to reach later in life, But I wasn't that desperate and used common sense in my choice..And I don't regret it for one minute...My lil guys have great personalties and are already learning new signals..I didn't buy them because it was the cool thing to do, I bought mine because they were the perfect fit for me and within my abilities to keep and maintain for a long long time and I must say, I'm quite proud to be an owner of one of the finest Crocodiles known to man..I'll post some pictures when time permits.
