Thinking about getting a Boaphile cage. I've done a search about cages

wideglide Nov 21, 2003 12:42 PM

and skimmed over it. I have read people say they are going to buy thermostats and noticed Boaphile does have thermostats but no one has mentioned a day/night cycle.

Is there something I'm missing here? I will need heat both at night and during the day so is there a trick to using just one thermostat with the heat pad Boaphile installs?

Please advise!!

Thanks for the info. I only have one python at this point, though and that's a little high for what I'm looking for.

Maybe when they come out with the single cage controller I would more consider it. I do like the fact that there's is an alarm.

It's my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong or I misunderstand) that a drop/change in temp between night and day is not required unless breeding. My temps only drop 2 degrees on each side at night.

I too plan to get the Boaphiles with installed heating and a thermostat.

but the majority, I have just seen, seem to indicate a night time temp drop is the right way to go.

Will you show me where you saw this information please?

Thanks!!

Some time ago on various forums I posted my temps and was wondering if I should be concerned that I had little change. Basically I was told since the temps were still within acceptable ranges I was okay. The main thing is to have a temp gradient (a warm and a cool side).

I may be wrong when I said "unless breeding". But anyway, I thought it was a problem since all the care sheets always quote seperate temps for night and day. I'm thinking now that is more to let you know that it's okay to have a drop but not to let it get too low. I'll try and see if I can find those posts for you, and hopefully someone else will step in and give some help/input.

www.reptiletubs.com or you can just get a clear Sterilite container (www.sterilite.com).

Purchase an undertank heater like one of these http://www.exo-terra.com/products/heat_wave_i.php and get some substrate.

As long as your snake's container is kept in a room with windows/direct sunlight and constant room temp above 75, you need not much more.

I use a 60W ceramic heat emitter for night and a 100W heat lamp for the day.

All together this combo can run you at

Rob, which model(s) do you have and what do you house in them?

DeltaWoods Nov 22, 2003 05:52 PM

I use the Boaphile 321D. It is 36inches long, 24 deep and 11.5 tall. I also had Boahile install low wattage flexwatt and a Florescent light. I keep one, 3 foot ball python in it. Feel free to ask any more questions if you have any.

Thanks for the reply. I'm eventually planning on getting 2 Boaphiles - 1 for my BP and another for a Brazilian Rainbow Bow. How's the humidity hold up in the Boaphiles?

It holds well. You have to mist occasionally but it keeps it for a long time.

I'm planning getting a vertical pass-through and eventually an additional, smaller cage on top where I'm planning on feeding my python. Right now I feed her in a seperate tank because I use aspen for a substrate, which I like. I'm planning on continuing to use the aspen except not in the upper tank.

My biggest problem now is keeping the humidity. It's good to know the Boaphiles hold it well.

What color did you get?
