Volcanic Rock

Sauvagii Nov 21, 2003 02:12 PM

Hey,
I am new to kingsnake.com, but I am a long time fan of all things herps! I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with volcanic rock in vivaria? Do you know a good place to get it (online/mail order)? And how would you go about water proofing the rocks? I want to use them for a waterfall in my new tank and I am trying to work out the details.

Thanks Alot,
Rob

I'd be very careful about using volcanic rock or at least examine the rock personally for safety reasons. Many types of it are very lightweight, but due to the way it is formed, a lot of them are nothing more than extremely rough or sharp-edged glass-like material. Cuts/scrapes human skin up pretty good if you bump into/against it or grab hold too tightly so would really hate to see what damage it could do to a reptile or amphibian.
