Gecko completely non-active

ew1074 Nov 21, 2003 04:06 PM

I've had my gecko for a month and a half now. The only time i've actually seen her is when i first put her in. It was only for a few seconds then. She made a bee-line for the first hide she saw and I havnt seen her out since. She waits for crickets to wander inside her hide. She must be coming out in the middle of the night to poop. I've stayed up till 2 or 3 in the morning several times with no noise and where she couldnt see me and she never moved. Sometimes she sleeps with her head at the door to her hide but if i look in she acts like she's annoyed and moves to the back. Will she be like this all her life??

thanks

i take it what you have is a either a baby or a juvi, over time you will gain trust in him/her and yes it could take a long time,i have a 6month old who goes crazy the minute my hand opens the door while its cage mate will come up to my hand and walk over it a few times and im able to do a short hold,my adults which are about 10-11 months are finally done with thier skittish temper and can hold them easily, but however it depends on the gecko, take your time and try hand feeding her, some hust need longer time to get use to people then other,it will go away at some point.

Babies are usually pretty skittish, mine used to freak out if he saw me, and snap if i tried to touch him. Over time ive noticed he has settled down alot. He'll occasionally walk onto my hand now and he isnt as afraid of me. The stradegy i used was letting him make the choice. Dont stick you hand in and pick him up, let him walk onto your hand and realize your not out to eat em. Thats my opinion on it, and its worked well. I just left mine alone for quite awhile besides feeding ect and he slowly settled down. Later, hope this helps
