anyone keep chahoua?

geckoman_nl Nov 21, 2003 06:27 PM

Would a pair be ok in a viv 2ft x 1.6ft x 2ft? (LxWxH)
Would one of those foggers be ok to use with them?
Also, does anyone know how many years they can reproduce for?
Any tips on breeding? (sorry for all the questions, but Im still waiting for my rhac book by Phillipe to come through the post )

Hey, i dont keep chahoua, but im guessing 2ft x 1.6ft x 2ft would be adequate to keep a pair in. Just be sure to include several hiding spots and branches.

Do not waste your money on an ultrasonic fogger. They are a piece of crap, and die off in a few weeks. Not to mention, they give a nasty shock when touched. You can make your own using pvc piping leading to the tank connected to a humidifier.

I dont keep them, so i dont know on breeding, etc.

Theres a caresheet on them at:
rhacodactylus.net/chahoua.html

Im sure others will help you out though

good luck,

All the Rhachys live in the same place, mostly together. So I would lose any fogger idea and plant spray as needed. Mine are more into crix than fruit, even as adults, which is different. Have not bred yet, but they have a sweet disposition, handle very well.

The book to get is the black Rhac book by Henkel. ISBN 3-930612-33-x, a bit pricey, but well worth the money. Chahouas are still pulling $300-$350 unless you know someone...

Makes the book a bit more reasonable in price.
