hello
i need some help...........
my yackies have finally mated......two years almost!!!!
they have two or three tunnels made in the dirt......i caught them in the act the other day.....first time i am sure...i keep good check on em'....and the female only comes out for food anyways.....now i need too know what too do if she lays eggs????
how do i find them??etc..etc...etc...
i had almost given up on them breeding...i mean two years!!!
i thought i just had two nice pets......but i really think i will have eggs.....its been almost a week since i seen them connected.
help please

First off, leave them alone. Second of all, this means nothing, you could have some gay lovers or something. When the female lays eggs, or if she does you will need to do something. you go and buy a plastic container, punch a few holes in the sides up high for a small amount of cross-ventilation, fill the container most of the way up with perilite or vermiculite, add some water to the right consistency, some use 1-1, i just feel it. put them in a spot that will heat them consistently at about 85-88. then leave them the hell alone for a long time while you intermittently add some water when needed. that is all there is to it (most of it, rest is common sense).

with the size difference in my two ackies .....they either are normal lovers or reallllllly gay...lolololol
so ..........
i should keep check on her by watching her size...????...then how do i know when she has laid????
how far down would she lay her eggs?????

She will start to dig a burrow before she lays, they should dig burrows anyways, but you will know. after she lays, she won't look gravid . don't bug them everyday though, and note the breeding most likely isn't over, it will probably go on for a while now until a short time before laying. and the eggs will probably be pretty deep. how deep is your substrate? andrew

Go buy a container. For my dwarfs I use the little rubbermaid food containers. Fill it up 3/4 with perilite. Wait. When she has laid her eggs, go to a sink, put a little water in the container (little), run your fingers through it, mixing it. get it to the proper consistency (not wet, not too moist, not dry). Now dig the eggs out, placing them half way into the perilite at the same position you found them, do NOT turn them. Put the top on the container,place them in something or a spot in a room that will be fairly consistently in the mid 80's, it can hit higher temps, but be careful because even if the babies hatch they might not live long (experience will slap you in the face with that, it has me, i am sure i will screw that up again) , leave it alone for a while, check to see if the moisture is right after a couple of days (do not get the eggs wet, it might kill them), come back every week. the first clutch you work with will be pure hell most likely, it was for me. hope this helped and helps others. cheers
