a little egg help plz!

geckoluver101 Nov 22, 2003 07:27 PM

OK i haven't been on here in a while so i'll catch you up on the happenings. My geckos laid some eggs and i need some help. These are my very first clutch so i'm trying as hard as i can to make sure i'm doing everything right. I was really surprised when the eggs were laid as i was going to wait till breeding season to breed them. WEll they mated secretly and i walked into my room one day and she was laying eggs. Lucky i had an incubator set and ready on the right temperture for march. Well back to the subject today was the 25th day and so far they have been doing fine but yesterday one of them started turning really brown on the bottom. It still looks fertile but i'm not sure if this is really bad. Thanks for the help sorry for such a long post, Katie

Sorry Katie, when it comes to eggs Brown is not a good sign!! What are you using for your incubation media, and what is the temp in your incubator? Honestly if it is there first clutch there is a chance that the eggs might go bad even if you did everything 100% correct, Good luck.

Yea, thats what i was afraid of... I'm using wermiculate and my temp is a steady 80 degrees. Oh well i think she's gravid again even though i seperated the male already and i have another egg that looks fine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.. Katie

It doesn't matter if you seperated them or not (along as egg production goes). A female can retain the sperm (or so I've heard) for up to a year, and use it to fertilize the eggs.

Your little girl will continue to lay for a couple months, usually(almost always), the same 2 per clutch. Take care.
