I just made a new cage for my beardies, and have an empty aquarium screaming for a new occupant...

I have been eyeing Collared Lizards for years now, but know very little about them. I just read Will Wells' and Melissa Kaplan's care sheets, but neither of these answer my questions. My questions are:
1. Is this a good time to get juvenile Collared Lizards? I've noticed a couple of sites on which they were offered.
2. If I got one or two now, would they brumate right away, or when would they brumate?
3. What does one look for as a healthy baby?
4. Can you recommend any good breeders?
If you have any other suggestions, I would love to hear them. My goal is to offer the best care possible. Thank you!

Well I will try and answer some of them. LOL
You could get 1 or even 2 juveys now(don't put males together) and they may try and brumate on their own. If they are nice and healthy looking, good weight then ya let them. They may not try.

If you get a pair and wanted them to breed in the spring, you have to get them now and brumate, brumating is a pretty big MUST if breeding. If your not interested in breeding you don't have to worry about it. But its still healthy for them to take a rest, sometime down the line, as in natural.

Most breeders we have on the forum really won't have any available until spring. But as you have seen some are being offered on kingsnake classifieds.

As far as what to look for, always ask for a pic of the SPECIFIC collared or collareds they are offering. Or ask to see whats available. Nice weight, don't want a skinny, boney, wc that refuses to eat, or is loaded with parisites. Captive bred is your best bet.

Nice bright eyes, and clean surroundings are important also. I have seen some pics where the tank is loaded with lizard excretment
You have other lizards so, you will be able to tell a healthy guy or pair when ya see em. Hey lots of luck, post pics when you get your new friend, OR friends! LOL we love to see them. Eve
