For the story of this snake and the history of Sarawaks in captivity, read the account in the VPI Breeders Bragging Post.

Hey Angel,

(I noticed that was your name and would rather use a real name than a username, if it's OK)

Is your Sarawak a Bob Garby baby? I don't think anyone else produces them yet . . . Are you getting a boy or girl?

I'm thinking of getting a Sarawak some time this month... The adults are stunning!

And here's a general Sarawak question:

If all of the Sarawaks in the country are decended from approximately the same ten or so animals, doesn't that make for a great risk of genetic weakness in the American Sarawak gene pool? Or is that a large enough pool to begin with?

Thanks,

There is certainly enough diversity in the gene pool. The original adults of both Bob Garby and me are from separate animals with only one common male between one of my females and his male I think. Unfortunately, Chris Carmichael who had the original animals had an accident and some of his founder stock did not survive, but I believe he received some more. That provides more diversity and hence better blood down the road. You should not have any problems buying a sarawak and having inbreeding problems.

Hey,
It is fine using my name, as it is already out there along with some of my earlier post. I think that as Rick mentioned, there is certainly enough diversity within the local U.S., population of Sarawaks that producing freak or genetically inferior animals is minimal and insubstantial. Recently a number of animals from the original founder stock of Sarawak's belonging to Chris Carmichael, were lost, however as newer animals were recently introduced along with various other animals within the Sarawak community ( Kara of Nerd ) of animals, albeit small as it may be, will provide enough genetic diversity to keep the gene pool viable and diverse enough to provide a youthful and replenishable gene pool.

Yes! it is a Girl!! and also, it is from Bob Garby, whose done a terrific job of producing some real out-standing animals this year IMO. It should be here sometime in the next couple of weeks. I selected an almost fully striped girl.
