What is the LACEY act? What does it prohibit?

Basically, the Lacey Act is in place to prevent illegal interstate commerce in animals that are protected by State laws, but are not Federally protected. For instance, if you go to another state, collect or purchase an animal illegally that is protected by that state, and then cross state lines with it, you may be in violation of the Lacey Act. Likewise, if someone else comes into your state and sells you an animal that is protected in his state illegally, he has violated the Lacey Act. If you had knowledge that he was doing that illegally, then you also have violated the Lacey Act.
