What kind of turtle did i just inherit?

Andy1982 Nov 23, 2003 10:38 AM

So a friend of mine is moving to texas and didn't want to take his turtle with him and knew i was a reptile guy so he gave it to me. Trouble is, he doesn't know what kind of turtle it is. I would like to know so i can know how to properly take care of it. It is clearly an aquatic trutle becuse it has the areodynamicly shaped shell and webbed feet. It also has long legs and long toes. It has bright yellow stripes on its head along with the thinner yellow stripes on its feet and rest of body. The top of the shell is a light brownish color and the bottom is the tanish color with a darker brown inkblot pattern. He said it has fed on normal turtle food from the pet store, but also will eat crickets. Its shell is approx. three and a half inches in diameter. If anyone could help me to figure out what kind of turtle i now have, that would be awesome! Thank you!

Not much info but I'd say a Painted Turtle.

It sounds to me like a painted turtle. You might want to try some bannana plants inwith the turtle. You can get these at petsmart.

Soubds like a painted turtle to me. Either a midland or western subspecies. I feed mine reptomin, guppies, earthworms. These guys eat just about anything.
