Best place online to get mealworms?

savana_man Nov 23, 2003 10:57 AM

Where is the best place online to get mealworms? I'm looking at price and time to get here. I need at least 1000.

holy Leapin' Leopards Batman! 1000 mealworms? How many Leo's do you have? I have 2, and I usually buy quantities of 50, .. but I'd say I throw out some of those after a couple weeks since they've died.. I can't imagine having 1000 mealworms in the fridge... my fiance would KILL me

One healthy leo can go through 50 mealworms in less than a week. How many mealworms are you feeding it per day? What is the weight? Unless your gecko is obese, I recommended feeding leos as muvch as they will eat, especially if they are under a year old.

Their weight varies.. but they're each typically right around 60-65grams.... I leave mealworms in their food dish for them,.. so it's hard to say.. but it seems like they typically go a couple days without eating, then will each eat 3-5 worms..

Lately, I've also been giving them crickets to give some variety... I've actually been getting a bunch of small ones, and a bunch of large ones.. putting some of each in the tank for 'movement' to catch their attention...

American Cricket Ranch. Good if you are near the west coast. Reasonable shipping cost. I ordered 5,000, they last a long time and are still doing well. SO much better than buying 500 every two days at Petco!

I get mine from BCRcrickets also. Quick especailly since i live like 45 min from them. I wish I could just go pick them up but we cant since it is an open operation farm. But if I order them on Monday by 9am they will be here on tuesday around 11am. Cheap too.

is bugs that have no other "friends" in with them like spiders and those little hairy cattapilar that are in some crickets..... so far the best i have gotten from is, is at www.grubco.com very healthy worms, no pests,so far and descent... they are not the cheapest (but i dont care bout that as long as i am getting quality feeders) but they arent the most expensive either. i have bought from several things for the larger named cricket and mealie bettles and recieved bugs with my bugs , blah!!!!
i have tried most on k-snakes front feeder page (cricket and mealie breeders/sellers) and so far grubco has been hands down the best.. dont neccisarily go by the cheapest price, generally the quality is lacking (from my experience) but ya dont have to pay outragious prices for sub par feeders from some of the bigger names.
also ask about the "over count", generally they include extras incase they miscounted and also incase a few are lost or escaped in the shipping or packaging process.
i have heard horror stories about spider soming iin shipments of crickets and not only just harmless spider but brown recluses, YUCK!!!
anywho shop around for the best quality deal.. it may not be the cheapest but most likely well worth the extra cash
