From Crickets to Mealworms.... Anyone know how to do it easily?

dubumb Nov 23, 2003 11:32 AM

Hi,

My leopard gecko feeds strickly on crickets. When she used to have cage mates, a few of her cagemates fed strictly on mealworms. My gecko will no even look at mealworms. Just to see if she maybe did eat them when i was sleeping i added a few in her cage and kept count... for a week none vanished so i am baffled at what to do to switch her over.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If she absolutely won't touch them you could try to offer her a few wax worms. Put them in front of her, but not too close, my Leos seem to be far sighted and won't notice food placed too close. If she likes the wax worms, then you can pluck out some freshly shed white meal worms and switch her to those, then to the regularly colored ones. This worked for two of my girls. Took less than a week to go from the wax worms to the meal worms.

I got real lucky with my 3 new girls. They are 6 months old and have never had mealies, just crickets and wax worms. But they took to the mealies immediately, nearly emptied their whole bowl full on their first night home!

Good luck with your Leo!

I kept a bowl of mealies in the cage & reduced the amount of crix fed every night. After a few days (maybe 4-5) of no crix, she started snarfing mealies.
