Is it possible that my leo female (only 6 months) has eggs?

blizzy Nov 23, 2003 12:23 PM

Hi,

I have a 6-7 months old tangerine leopard gecko female. This week she became very fat quickly! I can't imagine she has eggs. The male in the cage is maybe 7-8 months old...
She's really fat, and I don't think she has eggs...
Sorry but I couldn't take a pic

Cheers, Blizzy

how big is she?
i think she could be OR more likely she could be ovulating either way.. if you keep them together chances are she will lay eggs and if she is too small, it adds too much undue stress on the gecko and could result in possible death. a good rule of thumb is is you keep tywo hatching geckos together(of the opposite sex) they need to be seperated by about 20 grams, to avoid the male trying to breed the female at too early of age. males seems to mature sexually at a smaller size, i have seen 30 gram males sucessfully mate/ however a 30 gram female is much too small shoot even a 40 gram female is too small to mate. i would try and sperate them asap, and maybe its not too late

Seven to eight months old is absolutely old enough to father a clutch, and six (or seven) is old enough to become gravid though far from ideal. Hopefully she's not gravid, but no doubt about it she could be. Time to separate those two and hope its a false alarm!
