apple snail compatibility?

would it be safe to add an apple snail to the tank with my newt?

The snail might get his antenna nipped. But he'd just learn to hold them back under his shell more.

Actually i think the dangers are the other way around. apple snails are so named because they can grow as large as a baseball (or, an "apple" In my experiece they fear nothing (not even turtles) and plow along eating everything (poop, food, worms, pellets, plants, dead fish , other snails) in the tank. I'd worry that if it were big it would latch on and begin eating some part of your newt. Also they carry many diseases (though the risk of transfer to people is small, it may not be insignificant for other animals living in the same water with them)
