The question is... was this nile heated up to a decent temperature? Most reptiles are 'tame' when they're cold. Just a thought.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

i have the tamest nile in the land when shes cool,no hissing no whipping and definately no biting.A short story for yah, last week while changing her water i noticed that she was under the false leaves in her tank,so i lifted her and sure as hell she was nice n cool,i placed her near her basking spot and sat for 5 mins, its kinda like watching someone getting possesed because as time went on she started to gently hiss then little flicks of the tails and finally just for lifting her out of a nice sleep she lunged at my hand.Although she does sometimes tolerate me going in and watching her, mostly she'll make for cover soon as i open the door! This shot was of her just stepping down from her basking spot,i was about 5in away and she never so much as hissed at me(although she was giving me the beady eye treatment). From my limited experience with my nile, other people around her is a definate no no,especially new faces so i find it difficult to understand why this nile so readily accepted your paws on her.Have fun and take care

Hey Alex. Have you received your cross yet?

monitor1o1 Nov 23, 2003 10:04 PM

no not yet but i set up it's cage to day and he/she will be hear by the end of this week. i know you set up your trio in a 4x 2 x 2 cage. i'm setting up my cross in a 20 gallon long tank until i finish my 4 x 2 x 2 cage. do you think a 50 watt heat lamp is ok for right now or should i go with some thing hotter?

oh and from the post above the nile could very well of been cold but it was running around the cage when i was shopping.still this niles awsome.

Hey, Alex. Yeah I do have my trio in 4x2x2, I had it lying around and empty so I threw them in there. They still look tiny in there, but I'm going to build something bigger for them in the next couple of months. As far as the 50 watts for the basking spot, if its giving you the temps they need on the surface and your monitor is using it then it should be just fine.Good luck.
