Personally, I don't like it but if it is not associated with MBD then I don't see a single thing 'wrong' with it. I do know that there are many people who actually like the look. (go figure)

Well it used to be that in some Chinese circles foot binding was thought to look cool too.

OK, thats just a joke. But pyramiding in normally smooth shelled tortoises can be an indicator of poor captive conditions/diet.
But there are many folks who also think it makes them look 'neat'--if in an unnatural way.

I used to think the same think when I first got into tortoises. Then I saw these pictures: http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/webdiet.htm. Scroll down through the article- there are some bad ones. Pyramiding does look great when it comes naturally like on Star and Tent tortoises. Otherwise, it shouldn't be tolerated.
Good luck. Brooks

This is a sad post.
Whether it should be 'tolerated' or not is not the question. The question is if pyramidig is a sign of ill health or not. I don't believe it is.

Hey Ed, I didn't mean for the post to come out that way. I heard of a kid once who purposely put one of his tortoises on a very high protein diet to really show heavy pyramiding. That story scared me a bit and I wanted to prevent it from happening again. Thanks. Brooks

P.S. All of us here really appreciate your help! Thanks for everything, and keep up the good work.
