How does BD vison work with regards to colors and prey?

OrangeJuice Nov 23, 2003 06:06 PM

How does their vision work? I ask this because it appears that my BD is better able to focus on crickets when I have him on green repti-carpet as opposed to the dark-light brown repti-carpet he usually is on. I find it difficult to spot crickets on the brown repti-carpet, so Im curious if it affects him in the same way. Do they hunt based on motion? Does color play apart in their ability to spot prey?

I would think that a higher contrast in color between cricket and background would help too. I have no idea how they see or how thier vision compares to ours though. I have heard that red bell peppers cut up and mixed with the salad triggers their natural feeding response. Mine don't seem to care for them too much though - they like blueberries. To somewhat answer your question though, they do seem to respond mostly to motion. Mine try to eat the crickets reflections in their glass cage.

I don't know exactly how bearded dragons see but mine seems to have excellent eye site. He can see the crickets I bring him from quite a distance away and gets excited and starts to pace when he see's me coming with the cricket container. I have to keep the cricket container out of sight or else he won't settle down. And as far as color goes, he will eat all the green bearded dragon pellets that I give him and leave the red one. He will then go and bask and when he get's hungry again he will come down and finish up the red pellets that he left earlier. So I assume they see pretty well and in color????
