African House Snake?

justinrichland Nov 23, 2003 06:51 PM

I just bought a dark brown african house snake but i have noticed that it is missing the stripe that i have seen on all of the house snake photos i have seen. the stripe from the eye to the jaw is not present at all. she is a female and is about 2 1/2 feet long. Is this still a african house snake or maybe some other related snake?

Not all Brown House Snakes (L. fuliginosus) have that stripe, but all the house snakes I have seen have had it.

There are some other species of Lamprophis that lack this stripe (L. olivaceous, L. inornatus, etc), but these are very uncommon in captivity.

If you could post a pic, I might be able to identify it.
