Red Ear Slider is NOT basking/eating/restless....????

shadowcat410 Nov 23, 2003 08:03 PM

My female, 3 yr old RE Slider will not bask. She doesn't eat as often, probably because she's not basking, and is restless.
This has only been occuring in the last 4 months. I have not changed her food, nor anything about her habitat.
I can't seem to find a herpatologist in my area and she shows no signs of medical problems. But she is stressed and a stressed turtle who doesn't bask can't be healthy.
Any ideas? Anyone?

Thanks, Angela

hey angela, how do you have it set up? do you know your water temps? your basking temp? turtles can sense the changes going on outside...and perhaps the less daylight and maybe even a degree or 2 of change has affected your turtles activites. if you have it near a window maybe block block out the outside. increase your day time lights to on 14-16 hrs a day......just some thoughts..

yeah it may not bask if the water is too warm either. you need to get a good thermometer...not a "stick-on -tank" one. Buy a cheap digital one...20 - 30 bucks if you can afford it. clean the water more and try offering many different foods have you tried live lately (crickets, wax worms, mealworms, fish)?
