Feeding question

gex53 Nov 23, 2003 08:33 PM

Do leos become uninterested in crickets after tasting mealworms? I fed my leo mealworms the other day for variety and just to see if she would eat them. She ate a couple. She hasnt eaten any crickets since. I havnt tried to feed her any more mealworms yet cause the ones she ate looked kinda big to me. But i know nothing about mealworms. She hasnt eaten in three days. She just stares at crickets. I cant tell if she just doesnt want them or if she's sick or something. Its kind of worrying me. Should i just feed her mealworms from now on?

Thanks for the help,
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I don't think leos will become uninterested in crickets after tasting mealworms because they like more active foods. But, there are the certain few leos that are picky about what they eat and prefer certain foods over others. In this case, I think your leo decided that she prefers mealies over crickets. You can still try giving your leo a variety of foods, but if she really doesn't like crickets, you can try mealies and superworms. Mealies are an excellent staple diet for your leo and can eat 10-15 per sitting. So, since she ate only a couple mealies and hasn't eaten since, she's probably hungry You can try leaving some mealies and crickets in together and see which one she goes for- and if it's mealies only, you might want to feed her more mealies so she doesn't lose weight- also, you can try switching her back to crickets if you prefer them better. It may be tough, but I wish you luck on it The only worms you don't want to overfeed your leo are waxworms. Those should only be given once a week to prevent addiction and refusal of other foods. But, if you decide to switch to mealies - don't worry about it being bad for them because it's a good staple diet I use them to feed my leo
