best feeding time

dynomite Nov 24, 2003 12:15 AM

i havent really seen my timor monitor eat except for a couple crickets one time when he was still in his temporary cage, but now that i have him in his new big cage with a bunch of branches, vines, moss, "pool" w/ exoterra fogger, and SPACE its harder to keep track pf his eating, he has a lot of burrows and so do the crickets, plus with school and work i usually am not home while he is out and about, so i was wondering if there was a best time to feed him or if i should just continue to drop the crickets in around seven to 830 when i get home from work. i saw him basking b4 and he still looks healthy and all... i just want to make sure he is eating and not just living off fat reserves... so is there a best time to feed him? is there a beetter food than crix?
thanx

Hi Jake. First important question, what kind of monitor are you feeding? Your monitor should let you know when the best time to feed is, but if you're not target feeding, then I would suggest feeding at your lizard's active time (common sense). If you're truly concerned about your animal's food intake, make a cricket feeding bowl, with something like a tupperware with the lid on and a hole cut in the center. This should keep most if not all of the crix in but will allow your monitor to get in, eat and then get back out. You could also try things like king mealworms or pinkies in a dish. Billy
