Hello,
I was just curious as to whether any of you Candoia enthusiasts have any unusually large ground, tree, or viper boas. If so, can you please post them? Thanks.
Joe

I don't know what, exactly, constitutes big, but I have one red male Candoia carinata that I got as a wild-caught import in June, 1984. Then, he was 81.5 grams and approximately 23 inches. The last time I weighed him was in August this year and he weighed 1600 grams.

I tried to take a photo that would disguise how overfed he is. His weight today was 1.66 kg and he's somewhere between three and a half and four feet long. Anybody care to speculate how old he might have been 19 years ago as a wild caught import 23 inches long and 81 grams?

Joan,
That's one gorgeous ground boa! I always love seeing pictures of big ones like that. None of mine are that large, but I've never kept any as long as you have. I'm guessing he's (is it a male?) at least 23 years old. If caught 19 years ago, at the length you mentioned, he coud have been 2, or 5, or...?
Thanks agan for the post.
Joe
Joe,
I currently have a large female C.aspera that is pushing 31" and almost as round in diameter as a beer bottle. She is a beast of a snake; comparable to an adult female P.regius. C.aspera are not for everyone. They are typically "fiesty" little guys.
Hope it helps,
Scott
