i don't know if this is true or not, but i was told that some uv flourescent style bulbs will keep lighting but will only put out uv for 6 months. does anyone know if this is true?

Fluorescent bulbs will still light up for years, but after the first 6 months they lose there UVB output efficiency. So It is advised to replace them every 6 month. I don't use fluorescent bulbs, I use mercury vapor bulbs, they also loose there UVB efficiency over time, but start off with a much more powerful UVB light and after 1 year they are still double what a brand new UVB fluorescent puts off. i've seen everything posted about them in past questions asked and stuff, but there are some other mercury vapor bulbs that are not designed for reptiles. do these still put out uvb? here's why i'm asking...
flourescent bulbs= school classroom
flourescent ubb= reptiles
mercury vapor=?
mercury vapor uvb= reptiles
get the question? haha i just thought that was the easiest way of getting out what i'm trying to say. thanks

Mercury vapor bulbs sold at home improvement stores like homedepot are made for outdoor lighting in security lights. These bulbs don't produce UVB. The mercury vapor bulbs sold in pet shops have a special glass cover, special filament to produce the UVB. Hope this helps!
