fire belly toad

morganna Nov 24, 2003 01:54 PM

i have a fire belly toad in a 15? i think gallon aquarium with our eastern box turtle, a feeder fish, and a hermit crab. it is half land/ half water. the frog, skittle, usually stays on the dry side, where we have a little bowl of water. i feed him 2-3 small crickets every 2 days. i used to put dried blood worms in there, but he never ate them. some times, he goes over to the water side and sits on a "lilly pad" floatie thing i got at the pet store. do you have any ideas of any other foods he might enjoy as a treat or snack? live food doesnt bother me, btw. thanks!

ps- i have TONS of pics, as we have had this setup since june or july, and we got a new digital camera around the same time. i do not have them on the internet though, but i could email you a pic if you like.

It is generally not recommended to mix different species of animals together because they may introduce foreign bacteria which may kill their tank mates. With that said, Skittle (the Fire Belly Toad)can be fed chopped earhworms, maggots, grubs,or springtails. You can also give Skittle once or twice a week waxworms, or mealworms.

The firebelly toads are quite toxic; my boyfriend once picked ours up, and then unthinkingly touched his own eye, and it was red for hours after that. For this reason, I would not keep him in with the turtle.
My firebelly accepts small earthworms, though it takes some patience to wiggle it in front of his face, he usually takes it.

Hi I love firebelly toads, and I would never mix any kind of turtle with them because they might just get the urge to eat them!!! I have two firebellies in a 40 gallon tank and they love it. I feed my firebellies mainly crickets but they also like black worms, you can sometimes find them at petstores! If your turtle bites the frog then then you might lose the turtle also becaus the frog is piosonous! Nice talking, bye!

ok, thanks! btw, our turtle is like, 3 times bigger than the frog, plus, the frog stays in his little pool on the dry side, and the turtle stays on the water side. basicly no interaction. but, thanks so much!
