MataMata feeding

hraaij Nov 24, 2003 02:22 PM

Hello.

Since three days we are the happy owners of three juvenile mata's.
They are feeding, but untill now the only swallow live fish (guppy's). Reptomine stick they suck in, but they spit them out aswell. Does anyone have some feeding tips for matas? Do they only feed on live fish? Guppy's are very expensive here ($3 a piece. We already setup some breeding guppy's for them, but we we are looking for alternative ways of feeding them.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regard,

Hans and Marjelle.

I've heard of people getting them to eat sticks or dead fish, but most of the time, they only eat live fish. Mine is 9 inches long and eats 8 dozen fish a week.

Thanks. But isn't feeding such amounts of live fish very expensive. Guppy's over here are $3,50 a piece, so that I cannot afford

I can get fish for .28 cents a piece or less, fortunately.
Do they sell live fish at bait stores where you live? They're just as good or better for matamatas and usually pretty cheap.
