"Tammy" a more totally spoiled brat than "Teddy"...unbelievable but true...

Niki Nov 24, 2003 06:56 PM

She is now at Ft. Fisher, NC which was a surprise to us. We saw
her last up in Emerald Island area aquarium. Here she is getting
rubbed, scratched and patted without end until the diver got
tired and then she went over to the buddy diver and insisted
on the same treatment. She's 4 years old same as Teddy and he
has a poster of her in his cottage! lol! Alas, I don't think
that relatinship will work, but maybe they can be penpals.
By the way, the Hummer H2 was kicking sand on all the wanna be
jeeps in 4X4 only land on the beach!

I wonder about her growth, since she is the same age as
Teddy. She looks beautiful and healthy. Seems that in
an environment where you get eaten by anything bigger
than you, it'd pay to get large quickly. I have seen
loggerhead hatchlings and they're adorable, have not
seen greens as hatchlings, nor do I know their "normal"
growth rate. I know they come onshore at about 10-15 as
mature females to lay eggs again (loggerheads). And them
is some big girls! Just throwing out some thoughts since
there's always so much concern here about growth rates.

About a month and a half ago it was awesome to wake up in the morning, go down to the beach, and see thousands of sea turtle hatchlings on their way down to the water. We saw loggerhead, and leatherback babies. The coolest thing was when I saw the babies of a nest right next to my boardwalk. I was there when the mom layed her eggs, and then I got to see them hatch. Mr. Bayer my Redfoot and I had a great time walking on the beach all morning. He kept trying to climb the sea turtles, but I kept him back from fear of disease. Thanks for the info. Brooks

P.S. Is Teddy outside in his winter house?

Niki Nov 25, 2003 10:43 AM

Yeah, Teddy's outside. Actually until now it's been unusually
warm (high 70's -80's) so he been able to go out until now.
I think it's going to cool down after today though, and he
may have to stay in his cottage more. I come home for lunch
every day and could let him out then when it's warmer if it's
not raining and cold. As long as it's sunny I let him go out.
We're going to add some thick strips of plastic clear shower
curtain inside his window, we already have the shower curtain
just need to get it up. That way it'll help keep the heat in,
and he's got 3 large beach towels keeping the heated area
seperated anyways. When he gets too hot he lays somewhere else
in the cottage. I've got a large pile of soft timothy hay
in his tortoise yard, and he's starting to nibble on that as
the grass is fading out this year.

I don't think it will work out between them either.

He likes strawberry jelly. She likes jellyFISH.
He likes cucumbers from the supermarket. For her, it's strictly sea cucumbers.
She likes long walks on the beach. He screams like a little girl at the mere sight of water.
She can hold her breath for an hour. He can't stop wheezing for two seconds.
He is a homebody who lives in a shed. She likes to travel and take ocean cruises.
She has flippers. He has elephant feet.
He's as dumb as a rock. She's....okay they have one thing in common.
