Cobra Venom Factor and Cobrotoxin

C. Elmer Nov 24, 2003 07:28 PM

Hi,

Doing an ethnobiology report for school, and am concentrating on derived used for Naja venom. I've decided to concentrate on CVF and cobrotoxin, but need some help in finding good info on either or both. An firsthand explanations/help would be greatly appreciated, as well as just pointing me in the right direction.

Hi mate

CVF is actually widespread in elapids. It is actually complement factor C3b recruited for use in the venom (an interesting choice!). A good reference is Fritzinger D.C., Bredehorst R., Vogel C.W.; "Molecular cloning and derived primary structure of cobra venom factor."; Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 91:12775-12779(1994).

Cobrotoxin is a name given to any number of 3FTx (three-finger toxins). Have a read of a big paper we just did on the 3FTx by going to the publications section of my webpage (the link is below).

Cheers
