albino N. ringneck feeding

willstill Nov 24, 2003 07:50 PM

Hi all,

I kind of figured she had eaten something, but now I know for sure. I had offered worms on several occasions, but neither the albino, nor her sib seemed interested. On the suggestions of some experienced ringneck keepers on this forum (thank you!), I offered live guppies Saturday, but again no obvious interest. However, on Sunday I noticed that the albino was basking all day and she looked as if she had a dark swelling in her belly area. Today, she was roaming, so I grabbed one of the remaining guppies in the water dish and dropped it in front of her. She grabbed it immediately and began swallowing. Nice. Oh well, one small step foreward. Hopefully her sib will eat as well. Thanks for looking.

Will

You can see her last meal as the dark spot through her skin posteriorly, as it moves south towards her vent. The lump was higher up and more obvious, causing some distension on Sunday. But she sat under a spotlight all day yesterday and seems to be digesting nicely. Also, sorry for the crummy pic, but if you look closely, you can see that she swallowed the guppy backwards and is just getting to the fish's head.

In the future, watch out when feeding fish and swallowing them backwards. There is always a chance of fins getting lodged in the throat (I have had problems with waters before) though normally they slip down fine either way. Just keep an eye out. Good job getting it to eat. Post often with pics so we can see it grow up! Good luck to you. Andy

Way to go. You not only got it to eat you also got a picture of it eating. I have plenty of pics of some of mine eating but no ways of getting them posted here. I'm gonna have to try that guppy thing, I usually just fed them worms, salamanders and small Brown Snakes. Well congratulations!
