hi!

i finally had one of my aliens turn into a beetle! there's 2 dead ones sitting in there - i didn't know they were dead til today coz they've been black for so long and the white one with brown outlines turned into a beetle. it's my 1st time to grow mealies past the pupae stage coz i'm trying to breed. my question is...

how long do these beetles live?

i'm asking coz i have only ONE beetle and the rest of the 5 are aliens... and i want them to breed... but i'm thinkin this might die off before the others turn into beetles..lol~ i want them to breed!!

I don't know for sure but i think a month or something.. they usually mate and lay eggs but the hatchling mealies are usually never visible until the beetles die off..

thanks for your input! i'm pretty much gonna take the average from all the results i get..lol - coz i get totally off ones on care & breeding sheets online... it'll say like... 4 days, one has 4 weeks, the other ones have 3-4 months... lol- but i guess i'll see with my first set of breeder beetles. make my own mealworm care sheet! hehehe thanks geckofire-dale!

Pupation is 10-15 days; beetle lifespan should be around 4 months.

coz i tried reading care & breeding sheets, but they're all different... one says 4 days, one says 3-4 weeks, and one says 4 months like what you said... so i was all confused the only thing they had right was the pupation stage which is similar to what you said

Note that the conditions you keep them in will effect their lifespan. Best to use a container with a lot of area (more so than depth).

i keep them in my bedroom

they're in the top shelf of the door of my DVD closet, so it's nice and dark and it doesn't get too hot or cold... pretty much room temp. the container i keep them in is the one i got from wormman.com (the mealworm breeding kit under DRY GOODS)
