pulchra and semicinctus

TxHerper Nov 24, 2003 08:37 PM

Does anyone know the current status of L.semicinctus in captivity in America? I read that many of the advertised semicinctus were actually pulchra in the early days. Has that issue been solved, or is the jury still out? When the price finally falls, I'd like to obtain some semicinctus. Shane

For the past few years, every single tri-colored hognose I have seen has been either L. pulchra or L. mattogrossienses and almost invariably advertised as L. semicinctus

You may be wating for quite a while if you intend to hold out until you see any price drop.

There's either a big debate on taxonomy, or that pretty little snake in Mattison hasn't made it's way to the states. I must admit that I'm out of the international herp loop, but is the exclusion of semicinctus in American hands the result of legislation, or simply an unlikely export? I think you're right about the price (in some regards). However, Lystrophis pricetags will change when L.semicinctus reach us. Even without semicinctus, the Lystrophis breeders will face the same reality that Ringed python breeders faced. I need to take a field trip to South America. Shane
