comparing uros? (newbie)

Tristan Nov 25, 2003 12:30 AM

Hello. I have searched the forums and unless I missed it, I have not found anything that compares the different types of uros.
I am not completely new to lizards, I've had bearded dragons for over 2 years. I am very interested in uros and have seen different types in pet stores and pictures. I know that each uro has his/her own personality, but please try to answer this in the most general way. Please give me the breadown on the different types of uros in regards to temperment/handleability, hardiness, size, coloration and prices and if any, the differences in behavior.
Also, any recommended breeders? (I'm in southern cali)
How many uros can I keep in a 40 gallon tank?
Any websites that compares the different types of uros?
Thanks in advance (I realize that I have lots of questions),
Tristan

http://deerfernfarms.com/ is the site that everyone will recommend, its great.

http://uro-land.net/ also has a few care sheets that are quite informative.

Hi,
Deerfern Farms deffinitely gives the best information on the differences between the species. Malis seem to be the most common, and therefore cheapest, of the uros. I have two CB Malis, and both let me hold them, and are very tame. I haven't had any other species however, so I can't let you know on their temperament. I would say you can only have 1 uro in a 40gal breeder tank. It's just too small. I have my guys in a homemade 4.5' x 2' cage, and I still find it small You can see it below. Deerfern farms is probably the best uro breeder out there, at least one of the best. He is in WA, but will ship anywhere. Hope this helps.

A great website to both learn about and purchase uros from is Deer Fern Farms (deerfernfamrs.com).

it talks about tank sizes too.
