SUBSTRATE FOR CRESTIES??? I'm using pine shavings....is this ok?? ALSO.......................

I'm using pine shaving for their substrate is this ok??

Also.....I have a small female (9 months old) she doesn't eat the baby food I give her in a pringles chip lid.

And the two I have don't seem to take to crickets as a leopard gecko might...is this normal??? I'll put in maybe 3 in a night and they might only eat 1 or 2.

They have plenty of foliage to hide in and I give them a heavy misting at night. I was told to put in a water dish??? Will they even use it??

Hopefully someone can answer a few of these questions....

Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks!

>>I'm using pine shaving for their substrate is this ok??

No. They can get the shavings lodged in their mouths/throats and basically choke to death. Either use something very fine (soil works too) or use newspaper.

It might be the type of baby food you're giving her. You didn't mention what it is, so I don't know what to tell you.

You're not telling us the size of the geckos or the crickets. The crickets may be too big for them to eat very many of them, or they might be too small for them to really pay attention to. Also, it may be the temperatures. If it's too cool or too warm, that can affect their eating.

They may. I know people that do give them water and people that don't. Personally, I've had plenty good enough results without providing a water dish.

The tempertature of the tank is about 78 degrees.

Baby food is just apricot or peach gerber brand.

And the crickets are about 1/2 an inch to an inch for the adult male and the female that is 9 months get 1/4 sized crickets.

Thanks for the suggestions...any other ones would be a big help.

I have had my male crestie for nearly three months now so I don't have long experience with them. One thig I have noticed about that male is that he is really picky about his crickets. If they are even tiny bit bigger than he would like them then he won't touch them. Also he won't eat the male crickets, I thought it might be because they chirp so much.
The two babies I have don't care what size crickets they eat. I try to give them small enough crickets but the crickets grow so fast that sometimes I have to offer them a bit bigger baby crickets.
