I was thinking about getting boaphile cages but I am a little hesitant, as it seems the airflow is dependent on the set gap around the door. It is supposed to be the same surface area as a typical screen found in other commercial enclosures, but if the bottom is blocked by substrate,it would not work quite right. I also wonder about pits doing a rub around the air gap. The quality of the cage is excellent though i have seen them at daytona.

Dave,
I've been been using the Boaphile 4'x2' cages for 6 months now, and they are working out well. I have not had any issues with nose rubbing around that air gap. One thing that I did notice is a rise in humidity. I've considered drilling some extra ventilation holes, but just haven't done it yet. Even after 6 months, they still have that "plastic" smell, but this doesn't seem to cause the snakes any concern. Overall, I think these cages are the best designed and constructed plastic cage out there.
Good!
Glad to hear it.I have posted before to see if any other pit people were using them but without luck.I figured the humidity would probably go up. Thanks for the input, now I need to start filling up my room with boaphile plastics, one at a time!

Animal House
for a couple of years now and they are very satisfactory in terms of avoiding rubbing behavior. The metal screen is very smooth. It has some kind of good quality coating on it. Some Western Fox Snakes that previously were snout rubbers in sweater boxes have been much happier in the FB's. But that is also because they're in the larger size enclosures and have a nice thick layer of soft substrate to burrow around in. Burrowers seem to be snout rubbers (at least in my house).
The only big difference is that since the top is so open you need the ambient room temperature to be approximately what the cool side of the cage should be. The heat strips work well but a cool basement location can cause some temperature problems.
But all in all, I'm very hapy with them.
