need advice

Zeus Nov 25, 2003 03:52 PM

okay people, i need advice. there is a year and a half old male cuban iguana at my local reptile store. he is absolutly beautiful. they have had him since he was a baby. he has never been handled. today i put a pair of leather work gloves on and handled him a little. he was not happy but wasnt aggressive. he was just really scared and flighty. they are asking 149 for him. i think i am going to get him. i dont think it should be too hard to tame him down. what do you guys think. thats a pretty good price for an animal thats almost 2 yrs old isnt it? he will have the run of a room because i understand from people on the forum the more you let them roam the faster they tame. let me know what you guys think. thanks

If you have the room and you think he will get along with whatever else you have. From what I read there isn't an obvious downside. The price is good. I would have him checked out by a vet with an option of return depending on what is found out.

I agree. GO FOR IT! I dont think you will be disappointed at all. $150 is a good price especially for one that "mature".

the place opens at twelve and i will probably be there right on the dot. cant wait! by the way he is alot bigger than my rhino and they are about the same age. is that normal? i know cubans get longer but man this guy is big!!

when i let him out of the box he just sat there so i slowly went to touch his tail and "WHAP" he tail whipped me. ouch!! so if anyone has any taming tips let me know. remember he has a whole room to himself.

give him a chance to settle in, eat ,get warm, check the place out. Let him see you, maybe go in the room but dont touch him just yet. Just sit there, he may come check you out once he figures out his territory and that you are in it. He should tame like your rhino. You have lots of time
