Picture of Pregnant Dragon??

nancyjo Nov 25, 2003 04:38 PM

Anybody have any pictures of a "lady in waiting"? My lizard has gotten fat and eats like a hog. I think she is too young (what is the youngest age that it can happen. I remember reading something about having a buldge in the rib area.. She has been housed with males earlier but they were younger than her.. Anybody have a picture?

Here is my female when she was gravid.
You can see how wide & sagy the tummy gets.
You can even see some eggs sometimes.

though I don't have any picture of gravid dragons....I have heard females can get pregnant as young as 8 months. It is recommended they not be breed to at least 14 months. Males are sexually mature at a younger age...6-8 months I beleive. I would most deffinitely keep your males and females apart if you don't want unwanted pregnances, especialy in young dragons.

If she is gravid, you should be able to feel the eggs by gently feeling around her belly with your fingers, though this usually only works late in her term. Females will stop eating completely a few days to a week before laying eggs.

I do have a picture of a VERY preggers girl... Here she is... BUT...

You are more likely to feel the egs than see them. It is possible that she was bred by those males she lived with (depending on the age). Beardies can get pregnant much earlier than they should (not unlike humans!).

How old is she? There is a chance that she is just getting a belly from eating! Some of our "teen-age" girls get big pot bellies just from eating like little pigs!

Just in case she is pregnant, be sure to give her plenty of supplementation to aid with egg shell development. Make sure she gets all of the nutrition she needs.

Good Luck!

Here are a few pictures of my female in the process of digging to lay, and a picture of her while she is dropping the eggs. This was her second clutch, all 28 eggs were fertile and good.
