Auriculatus color genetics

Rhacphantastic Jun 01, 2003 03:23 PM

Hi everyone-
does anyone know what the genetics are for the striped aurics?
For instance, if you breed a striped to a blotch, what offspring would you expect?
thanks

Ive been told that its 50/50. Some will come out striped and some blotched. I am currently testing that theory with my own trio.

As far as i can tell its completely random. I have a blotched male, orange blotch female and striped female as breeders. The striped is due to lay her first clutch here very soon, but the orange blotch has thrown clutches with 2 normals, 2 orange blotched and 1 of each in previous clutches.

Stripes are a homozygous recessive trait (aa), just like albino or patternless leopard geckos. If you breed two stripped adults together you will always get stripped hatchlings. If you breed a striped to a blotched all hatchlings will be het for stripe and show some blotching. Blotching is more of a polymorphic trait based on a number of alleles compared to a single like the stripped. The more you selectively breed it the better it will get.
