pick it up
let it move freely
don't hold it just let it go and all will be well
have fun
then you might want to hold it over the cage the first few times. They can be fast and squirmy and might get away. If it is over the cage, you won't worry about dropping it and either hurting it or letting it escape. After a few times, you will know how it moves and won't need to take this extra precaution anymore.
Don't worry if it strikes or bites the first few weeks. It will likely get used to you soon. But don't put it back in the cage if it "misbehaves" - wait until it is being quiet. No point in teaching it to bite or strike by giving it what it wants (to go in the security of its cage) when it is acting in a way YOU don't want!
Good luck!
