Eltar - Help? Kingsnake, Bullsnake, Garter... what?

Seliah Nov 25, 2003 11:01 PM

No idea what this little guy is... when we bought him we were told he was an albino californian kingsnake... but he really does not resemble any kingsnake that I have seen...

Kind of looks like a bullsnake ..

Kind of like a ratsnake...

Mimics the behaviour of a rattlesnake (is NOT a rattler!), as far as getting up on his lower coils in that whole s-curve and everything, shows his belly and rocks around like that, hisses rather loudly for a hatchling, too... very temperamental at the moment, though that could just be his age, has a quick temper, and is very, very excitable, scares very easily (and every time we pick him up he releases himself, lol), though he has calmed down a LOT now. But we don't know what he is.

He is not a cornsnake.. far, far too temperamental and strong, and too big at his age, to be a cornsnake ..

We've had him for about a month now, no he is NOT poisonous, and he is about three months old I think ...

Anyone know what he is? I have NO idea. And I am trying to identify him...

Pictures in the next two posts.

This would be a picture of the little guy ...

Any help would be appreciated, I cannot figure out what he is.

...and I didn't realize just how big the picture was... sorry!!!

That's a cal-king but I've never heard a kingsnake hiss. Maybe a little puff here and there but never a full blown hiss. Interesting.

That definitely looks like a banana morph california king.

It's a cal king, some morph though, probably albino banana or something like that. But it is a king for sure. Andy

100% sure I know my kings

chrish Nov 26, 2003 12:57 PM

When the banana morph was first developed in the 1980s, the name was reserved for cal kings that had no pattern on the sides and were basically solid yellow on the body except for the head. That snake has too much discernable pattern for me to call in a banana morph (sensu lato).

But either way, its just a damn albino cal king!

Your right it is not just a plain bannana. It is an albino bannana which is why it has the pink stripes. This is just what I think, I dont know that much about kings so I'm not sure.

You are right I have one just like it I got from Shannon Brown. I it is deffinately an albino bannana. Mine is a bit fiesty as well. He doesnt bite or hiss but he does rattle his tail and crap all over anyone holding him. I wonder if it is because their vision is so bad or what?
