Hey DC, i know you've worked with faux rock and i was wondering if there is more of a fire risk having styrofoam or polystrene in your enclosure, or does a sealant help?

...is completely encased in a rock-like shell of mortar that is at minimum 1/4" thick. I haven't used any other type of "sealant" on the mortar, since it IS rock-like. You don't want any bare styrofoam exposed anywhere, since they can scrabble and dig at it and produce some loose beads, which might be injested. I cannae ken, nor grok, this fire problem you're worry about, unless you are letting your delinquent collareds play with matches LOL.
