Why would my vet advise putting a "HUMIDITY BOX" in my BD enclosures?

abstractcypher Nov 26, 2003 01:18 AM

It startled me when he said it, but has anyone else heard of this?

I haven't heard of bearded owners using it, but I think it's a pretty good idea in general. The purpose is to create a microhabitat within the habitat, that way, the bearded dragon can have a choice. Done properly, it does not raise the humidity of the entire tank too drastically.

That's a good point, I guess done properly it could be somewhat beneficial.

In fact, only that they get respiratory infections when humidity is too high. I can't imagine under what circumstance this would be needed.
Any other vets around?

Perhaps this could help beardies help themselves during shedding? I've actually heard this from other people too, that they use a "humidity box" in the beardies' enclosure while it's shedding. I've never quite believed in that myself though. I just mist and bathe mine

risking a respiratory infection.

Obviously your vet has been dipping into the stash of animal special K in the back rooms.
